Services

General surgery

We have the ability to perform routine surgeries (spays and neuters) and non-routine (intestinal foreign bodies, bloat, bladder surgery, etc.) on the premises. Our surgery suite is outfitted with the most up to date gas anesthesia and monitoring equipment.

Radiographs

We now have state-of-the-art digital x-ray which enables us to expedite the process of obtaining radiograph results. We are also able, when necessary, to send x-ray images via e-mail to cardiac, orthopedic, or internal medicine specialists for stat consults.

Laser surgery

We are excited to now have the ability to perform surgeries using a laser. Some of the benefits of laser surgery include reduced pain, reduced bleeding, less chance of swelling and infection. This means a quicker recovery which results in a faster return to normal activity.

Ultrasound

Ultrasounds can be important diagnostic tools to diagnose various conditions. We utilize a board certified specialist who routinely visits our clinic and provides this important service.

Dental cleanings/extractions

Dental disease is a common problem in our companion animals, which can lead to much bigger issues. We are committed to maintaining the best oral hygiene via regular dental cleanings. Our dental equipment is state of the art, ensuring your pet has a bright smile and fresh breath. Our new digital dental radiography machine allows us to properly determine if a tooth can be saved or if extraction is needed.

On-site laboratory

Our in-house laboratory allows us to perform important diagnostics on your pet. With rapid results, we are better able to diagnose conditions which may require immediate attention. We also perform pre-anesthetic testing on animals undergoing surgical procedures to assure your pet is healthy and can safely undergo anesthesia. We utilize a reference laboratory to compliment our in-house laboratory so we can offer a wider and more comprehensive range of wellness and non routine testing.

Pharmacy

Our hospital maintains a pharmacy with a complete line of preventative prescriptions such as heartworm and flea and tick preventatives as well as prescriptions for our sick patients. We also have the ability to compound certain medications. Please ask us about FlavorRx if your pet is a reluctant pill taker. Perhaps we can turn that pill into a pet friendly flavored liquid. We can even ship medications for your convenience at no additional charge.

Preventive health care

Shawsheen Animal Hospital's main focus is on preventative wellness, or preventing issues before they become more costly, difficult to treat, and sometimes even life threatening conditions. Our staff is here to educate you on the benefits of vaccines, wellness blood testing, routine dental care and parasite prevention.

Vaccinations

Vaccines are an important part of preventative health care. Our hospital offers routine vaccines with annual reminders that are customized to your pet's lifestyle. Ask us about the first and only USDA approved 3 year canine and feline distemper vaccines.

Nutrition counseling

A proper diet is just as important to your pet's health as routine examinations and vaccinations. Our technicians will provide you with the helpful recommendations regarding which diet (prescription or non-prescription) will best fit your pet's nutritional needs.

Senior Care

Our senior pets require more attention as they age. We are committed to diagnosing conditions early in an attempt to slow their progression. Senior patients require bi-annual examinations, routine blood work and nutrition counseling. Please ask us about our senior care package.

Health Insurance

Are you prepared to care for your pet if he or she suffers a major accident or illness? Due to the rising costs of veterinary care, we encourage our clients to consider health insurance for their pets. We are offering a no obligation, free 30 day trial of Trupanion Pet Insurance with an exam. Trupanion is easy to use, approved by the American Animal Hospital Association, and was designed by veterinarians. Call our office for details.
