Dr. Michele Caruso, Practice Owner
Dr. Caruso Michele Caruso, DVM graduated from Suffolk University in Boston Massachusetts in 1993 with a Bachelor in Science. From Boston, Michele traveled to Ross University (which is on the beautiful Caribbean island of St. Kitts) for her veterinary education. Dr. Caruso graduated from veterinary school in 1997 after completing her clinical rotations at Louisiana State Veterinary School in Baton Rouge, LA.

Dr. Caruso worked in a small animal practice in Westford, MA and an emergency clinic in Acton, MA for several years prior to opening her own practice. In, 2001 Dr. Caruso opened Shawsheen Animal Hospital with Dr. LeBlanc. Drs. Caruso and LeBlanc have been good friends for over thirteen years. They attended under graduate as well as veterinary school together. It has always been Dr. Caruso's life long dream to be a veterinarian and to have her own animal hospital. Dr. Caruso is very proud of the medicine, health care team, and customer service that are provided at Shawsheen Animal Hospital.

When not at work Dr. Caruso's favorite thing to do is spend time with her family. She is happily married and has two beautiful children. She has several other "children"; and Tyler, a golden retriever, and two cats; Sirius, and Orion. Dr. Caruso thoroughly enjoys being a mom and veterinariann.
 

Dr. Shawn Leblanc, Practice Owner
Dr. LeblancShawn LeBlanc, D.V.M. is a native of Massachusetts; he grew up in Waltham. He first became interested in becoming a veterinarian during his early childhood when he realized that he had a fondness for animals. That interest continued throughout high school and undergraduate. Dr LeBlanc did his undergraduate studies at Suffolk University, where he also met his business partner and good friend Michele Caruso, D.V.M. Together they went to veterinary school and both graduated from Ross University in 1997. After graduation Dr LeBlanc worked in private practice for several years in New York before moving back to Massachusetts to work in emergency medicine. He worked there for 4 years when the opportunity came along to purchase a practice with Dr Caruso. Having known each other for many years and working well together, they purchased Shawsheen Animal Hospital in April 2001. Since then, they have worked very hard to increase the level and quality of care that pets receive in Tewksbury and surrounding communities. Today they are proud to be part of a wonderful community who care for and treasure their pets, considering them family. Dr LeBlanc has a special interest in emergency medicine, surgery and preventive wellness. He looks forward to working with the community as the animal's advocate and continuing to provide excellent wellness and care.
 

Deborah Simson, MBA/ACC, Practice Manager
DebbieDebbie grew up in Merrimack, NH but moved to the Ft. Lauderdale area to go to college and lived in that area for 22 years. She has an Associates degree in Crime Scene Technology, a Bachelors in Accounting, and a Masters degree in Business Administration with a specialty in Accounting. She has worked in Veterinary medicine for over 14 years where she has also earned a certification in animal dermatology and nutrition.

She and her husband have many four-legged children of various species. They breed and show long-haired Japanese Bobtails and have done rescue work with cats and hedgehogs. She is happy to have escaped "Hurricane Alley" to return to New England, closer to her family and friends.
 

Cara Seiffert, Head Veterinary Technician
CaraCara has been working at Shawsheen since September of 2004 and has been a technician since September of 2003. Cara taught middle school for 7 years and it was while teaching a science unit on animal behavior and cognition that she realized that she belonged in the animal field. Cara earned her certification as a dental technician in 2005. Her favorite part of working at Shawsheen is getting to know clients and their animals and being a part of their health care from puppy and kittenhood through adulthood. She lives in Lowell with her 2 ‘crazy old men’, 11 year old black lab littermates, Jake and Elwood.
 

Amanda Cole, Head Receptionist

AmandaAmanda came to Shawsheen Animal Hospital in October of 2005. She has loved and cared for animals since she was a child. In her teens she worked for a dog trainer. That experience taught Amanda training techniques and provided experience with many different dog breeds. It was Amanda's fondness for animals that led her towards a career in a field that allowed her to work with and care for them. In 2003, Amanda started working at a veterinary hospital in Hudson, NH where she learned most of her reception skills and medical knowledge. She moved to Lowell with her 3 year old Siamese cat named Shelby. It was her move to Mass that allowed her to accept the position as full time Vet Assistant at Shawsheen.

Amanda loves interacting with the clients and patients at Shawsheen. The positive atmosphere and great practice of medicine makes Shawsheen a pleasurable place to work. She hopes to spend many more years here.
 

Kelly Burns, Veterinary Technician
Kelly Kelly has always loved animals and in 2002 graduated from the University of New Hampshire with an Associates Degree in Applied Animal Science. Kelly has worked in the animal field for quite a while and loved every position she ever had. Her experience ranges from working as assistant barn manager, pet sitting and working on the family farm to being an Animal Care Technician at the NHSPCA. Everyone would agree that this is the field she was made for!

Recently Kelly took some time away from the animal field and explored restaurant and office settings. In no time her urge to work with and help animals overcame her and that's when she took the position here in July of 2005 which allows her to do what she loves most. In her free time, Kelly plays with her dog George and rides her horse Taffy whenever she can.
 

Heather Coffill, Head Vet Assistant
HeatherHeather has worked at Shawsheen since October of 2004. Heather tried working in a different field for a few years, but she missed working with animals so she jumped at the job opportunity when she saw the ad in the paper for Shawsheen A.H. Heather's favorite part of working in the veterinary field is seeing how happy and proud owners are of their new puppy or kitten. Heather is the proud mother of a black lab, Kelsey, a Lhaso Apso, Pudgy, and a cat, Baby.
 

Tammy Seully, Veterinary Technician

TammyTammy has worked in the legal collection/debt buying field for almost ten (10) years. Tammy always wanted to pursue a career with animals, so she began volunteering as rescue chair for a local Boston terrier club. She contributed all her spare time transporting, fostering and rehabilitating Boston terriers. Tammy finally dropped off her resume at Shawsheen Animal Hospital and then began her career in October 2005 as a part-time receptionist. Three months later Tammy accepted a full-time position as a veterinary assistant. Outside of Shawsheen Animal Hospital, Tammy enjoys traveling and snowboarding out west at big mountains such as Jackson Hole, WY, Snowbird, UT, and Heavenly CA, NV. When Tammy isn’t hitting the slopes you can find her kayaking the mangroves in the Florida Keys. Tammy lives with her Boston Terrier (sometimes terror), Boo. Tammy enjoys her life even more now that she is finally pursuing her career with animals.
 

Kate Hevey, Veterinary Assistant
KateKate came to Shawsheen in September 2006 after graduating from Canisius College in Buffalo, NY. At Canisius, she earned a B.A. in Psychology with minors in Zoo Biology and Animal Behavior. Having interned at the Niagara Falls Aquarium, the New England Aquarium, and Helping Hands (monkey helpers for the disabled), Kate decided she would try something in the veterinary field, an idea she always had in the back of her mind. Kate is very happy with her career choice and hopes to continue learning something new every day. When not working, Kate spends her time taking care of her Miniature Pincher Caesar, her fish Peaches, and her four cockatiels: CK, Tweety, Ginger and Moe.
 

Nicole Scenna, Receptionist
NicoleNicole joined Shawsheen Animal Hospital in March of 2008. From a young age, she has had a desire to work with animals. Her love of animals not only shows at work, but also at home. She is the proud parent of 4 cats whose names are Scruffy, Simon, Bella and Baby. 3 dogs named Tank, Xena and Mia, 1 bunny named Bunny, 8 chickens, 4 turkeys, 3 french hens, and last, but not least, a horse named Tanky. In her spare time, Nicole enjoys spending time at the barn with her horse, hanging out with her friends and spending time outdoors. Before joining Shawsheen, Nicole spent 6 years training and caring for many different breeds of horses. It was her experience with horses and her many years of working in Customer Service that made her a great addition to Shawsheen.
 

Linda Kanihan, Registered Veterinary Technician
LindaLinda grew up in Massachusetts and has worked in a variety of animal related careers before coming to Shawsheen Animal Hospital in 2008. the first was as a volunteer at the New England Aquarium. After receiving a BS in marine biology, she worked as a wildlife rehabilitator in upstate NY, tracked sea turtles around Long Island, and collected data on dolphin and seabird populations in the Eastern Pacific aboard a NOAA research ship.

Linda moved to California in 1990 to work on a Masters degree in marine biology and gathered data on nesting sea turtles near St Croix. After volunteering at another wildlife shelter, Linda changed direction to earn an Associates degree in Animal Health Technology and passed the California state test to become a Registered Veterinary Technician. For 10 years, she worked as a technician primarily at 2 large practices in California which included general practice, emergency, orthopedic, oncology, and internal medicine specialists. Her main interests are dentistry and laboratory.

In 2006, Linda moved back to Massachusetts to be closer to her family. She now lives in Wilmington with her wonderful husband Jim, daughter Laura, and sons Jason and Ryan. The “furry children” are Maggie, a border collie cross and 2 cats, Clarissa and Angel.
 

Becky Tinker, Veterinary Technician
BeckyBecky has been in the veterinary business for 2 years. She started out as a technician assistant, and became so interested in the field that she worked her way up to being a veterinary technician in 6 months. Currently she has 5 cats (Monkey, Fractious Furball, Bella, Penelope, and Cassy) and 2 dogs (Dezi and Spencer). She greatly enjoys her job as a vet tech and feels each day is a new and exciting learning experience.
